| I was
born in San Francisco, Ca. on June 20, 1964, the youngest of 7 children
to Willie and Roselee Ramsey. I was into entertaining people from
the age of about 5... singing and dancing for my parents’ friends when
they would visit us. By the time I was 7 years old, I was in a small singing
group, specializing in all the Jackson 5 songs we heard on the radio. We
even won a talent show at the University of San Francisco!
From there, I went back to
just entertaining family and friends. I remember being taken to a James
Brown concert by two of my sisters. While James was on stage doing his
thing, I was in the seats doing the SAME thing. James Brown noticed this
and had the spotlights shine down on me. I didn't know what the big deal
was, I was just having fun!
As I got older, I got further
away from being an entertainer and started being a typical teenager. I
got into sports for the first time when I was introduced to the sport of
soccer! I fell madly in love with the game and thought I was going to grow
up to become the next Pele. I played Soccer for most of my early teens
in Marinwood, California. I lived there for two years while I attended
a school called St. Vicent's School for Boys.... I was originally sent
there for some ‘guidance.’ While there, I was given a chance to do things
I would have never been able to do while I was living in San Francisco.
When I moved back home, I continued to play Soccer in Marinwood. I would
travel from San Francisco to Marinwood every Saturday. This went on for
about a year until I found that I was enjoyed hanging out with my friends
more than I enjoyed going to my games. Eventually I got out of the game
all together and started doing what most high school boys like to do...chase
the girls!
I went to George Washington
High in San Francisco for the first two years of my high school life. While
I was there I took drama and actually passed! Then I started just hanging
out with my friends and skipping school. This didn't go over well with
my family, but, I was the "man" and I would do what ever I wanted to! Well,
when things got hard and I couldn't support my "fun" I had to do something
or get out of my parents house. So I went back to school and got my diploma
and proceded to join the Army. This was to be a turning point in my life.
The day before I was to leave
for Basic Training, I had to take my mother to the hospital. She had been
complaining about a sore hip and her emotions were unstable. My mother
was having a diabetic reaction to her insulane and no one knew it.
I would be there to give her her shots in the mornings but, sometimes I
wasn't there to give them to her and she had to do it herself. Something
I feel really guilty about now.
I never thought that this
was going to be the last time I was going to see my mother alive.
Later that night I got a
call from the hospital. It was my father calling me to tell me that my
mother had passed away. Needless to say, I didn't leave for Basic Training.
When I did finally get there, my army days were short lived. I hurt my
foot and was given a medical discharge from the service. Time went by and
I was having a hard time adjusting to life without my family being together.
I started doing things I wasn't proud of and had to find a way to
get back on my feet. So reenlisted into the Army. Again, my Army
career was cut short. I still believe to this day that it was because my
mother never wanted me in the Army that I have never been able to complete
my training. This time around, I hurt my back and again, I was sent home.
But before I left for the
Army, I became a father. And while I was in the army my girlfriend, at
the time, was pregnant with our second son. The only problem was, I was
in love with someone I met while I was in the Army. Well, I eventually
married the girl from the Army and moved from South Carolina to Northern
New York. A few years later, she and I had a beautiful little girl. We
seperated a few years later. Wow, I've lived the life of a Hollywood actor
and I haven't even been in the tabloids yet.
After the seperation, I found
myself becoming stagnant here and needed to do something with my time and
my life. So I went back to what I've always loved...entertaining. I went
out on my first audition for a play with the Watertown Lyric Theater. It
was the first time in my life I had to actually audition for something.
So I went in and sang a few sour notes and to my surprise, I got cast!
The show played for one night only and there were three showings. By the
end of the last show, I knew what I wanted to do with my life...ACT!
I felt the excitement again.
I saw the enjoyment in the faces of the people in the seats. This was what
I was missing in my life. Entertaining is in my blood. And I know that
my mother would be much happier knowing that I'm using my talents to please
people...not kill them. So I will continue to make people laugh, cry, and
in some cases...mad by doing what I enjoy doing more than anything...Acting!
As far as my family is concerned,
they are all 100% behind my decision to become an actor. I lost my brother
on Jan 1, 2000 to a drug over dose. So what I do, I do for the both of
us because he had aspirations to became a singer and never quite made it.
However, I may have lost my brother but, I have been blessed with yet
another son and he's already showing signs of being a musician. So, maybe
he'll pick up where my brother left off. As for my love life...well, things
are going well there! It's not always smooth sailing but, it's nice to
know she's there for me when I need someone to lean on. I wouldn't
be where I am now if it weren't for her.
So, I'm on my way and I plan
on enjoying every minute of it! Hope you'll come along for the ride! |
